Nottingham’s Kitchen Cabinet Painting Specialists

Solid Wood Cabinets
Solid wood cabinet doors need thorough preparation before a durable finish can be applied. We clean off grease residue, sand back the existing coating, apply a specialist wood primer, and build up to a hard-wearing topcoat.
Properties around Wollaton Park and Musters Road often have handmade kitchens where the original joinery is high quality. We take the time to achieve a finish that matches the standard of the kitchen.
MDF Cabinets
MDF doors are common in factory-fitted kitchens across West Bridgford and Wollaton. The material is stable but porous on cut edges. Standard paint will not bond to unprimed MDF.
We use a specialist MDF primer that seals the edges and creates the bonding surface the finish coat needs. Two finish coats of kitchen enamel follow.
Factory-Sprayed Units
Many fitted kitchens arrive from the factory with a sprayed finish. When homeowners want to change the colour, the existing factory finish needs careful preparation.
We lightly sand the existing surface, apply a specialist adhesion primer, and build up to two finish coats. For interior painting of the rest of the kitchen, we can coordinate both elements as one visit.
Cabinet Painting vs Replacement
Replacing a fitted kitchen costs between £5,000 and £25,000 or more. Repainting the existing units costs a fraction of that and achieves a dramatic visual change.
Painting makes most sense where the carcasses are sound and only the colour or door condition is the issue. We give honest advice at the assessment visit.
Colour Selection
Dark grey, deep blue, and sage green are popular choices in period properties. We work to any colour specified and can advise on finish levels suited to the material.
Here’s How It Works
1. Assessment Visit
We visit before quoting and check the cabinet material, existing coating condition, and the scope of units to be painted.
2. Preparation
The kitchen is masked carefully. Worktops, appliances, and adjacent walls are protected. Cabinet doors may be removed for painting in some cases.
3. Cleaning and Keying
Grease and contamination are removed from all surfaces. Existing coatings are lightly sanded to create a bond surface for the primer.
4. Priming
A specialist primer is applied to all surfaces. MDF edges get extra attention. Factory-sprayed finishes receive an adhesion primer.
5. Finish Coats
Two coats of kitchen enamel are applied throughout. We inspect for any surface imperfections between coats and correct before the final coat.
6. Reassembly and Check
Where doors have been removed, they are rehung and adjusted. We check all hinges and soft-close mechanisms before leaving.
