UPVC Conservatory Frameworks

UPVC is the most common conservatory material on Nottingham’s 1990s to 2010s housing stock. Over time, white UPVC yellows, chalks, and takes on a grubby appearance.

The process follows four steps: clean and degrease, lightly abrade, apply a UPVC adhesion primer, then spray two topcoats. The most popular colour change is white to anthracite grey (RAL 7016).

Aluminium Conservatory Frames

Older conservatories from the 1980s and early 1990s are often aluminium. The original powder-coat finish can oxidise, chip, or simply look dated.

Aluminium requires a different primer from UPVC. The result is a clean, consistent finish that restores the structure’s appearance for a fraction of replacement cost.

Timber Conservatory Frames

Period properties in Mapperley Park, The Park conservation area, and Beeston sometimes have timber-framed lean-to conservatories. Timber frames need exterior-grade wood preparation: sanding, filling, priming, and a durable exterior paint.

Dwarf Walls and Brickwork

Many conservatories sit on a dwarf wall. Where the dwarf wall is rendered or painted, including it in the repaint gives a complete result. For rendered or masonry dwarf walls, see our render painting page.

Colour Options

A white UPVC conservatory repainted in anthracite grey or charcoal reads as a modern extension. We repaint conservatories alongside exterior painting programmes where timing and access allow.

Here’s How It Works

1. Structure Assessment

We check the frame material, condition, and the extent of masking required before quoting.

2. Cleaning and Degreasing

All UPVC or aluminium profiles are cleaned thoroughly. Grease or contamination prevents primer adhesion.

3. Abrading

Profiles are lightly scuffed to create a mechanical key for the primer.

4. Masking

All glazing panels, roof glass, and surrounding surfaces are masked before any spray is applied.

5. Primer

UPVC adhesion primer or aluminium primer applied and allowed to cure.

6. Topcoats

Two spray coats applied for an even, consistent finish across all profiles.

7. Inspection

All edges, joints, and meeting points are checked. Touch-ups completed before masking is removed.
