UPVC is the most common conservatory material on Nottingham’s 1990s to 2010s housing stock. Over time, white UPVC yellows, chalks, and takes on a grubby appearance.

The process follows four steps: clean and degrease, lightly abrade, apply a UPVC adhesion primer, then spray two topcoats. The most popular colour change is white to anthracite grey (RAL 7016).

Older conservatories from the 1980s and early 1990s are often aluminium. The original powder-coat finish can oxidise, chip, or simply look dated.

Aluminium requires a different primer from UPVC. The result is a clean, consistent finish that restores the structure’s appearance for a fraction of replacement cost.

Period properties in Mapperley Park, The Park conservation area, and Beeston sometimes have timber-framed lean-to conservatories. Timber frames need exterior-grade wood preparation: sanding, filling, priming, and a durable exterior paint.
