Steel up-and-over and sectional doors are the most common type on Nottingham’s postwar housing. Once rust gets into a chip, it spreads quickly beneath the surrounding paintwork.

We treat any rust with a rust converter, apply a dedicated metal primer, and finish with a gloss or satin exterior paint. Contemporary colours such as anthracite grey, heritage green, and black are available.

Timber garage doors are typical on properties built before the 1980s. Without proper maintenance, bare timber absorbs moisture and begins to swell, split, and rot.

We strip back loose and flaking paint, sand the surface, and apply exterior primer before the topcoat. A properly prepared and painted timber door can last eight to twelve years.

GRP fibreglass composite garage doors are increasingly common on newer properties. Standard paint will not bond to GRP without the correct preparation.

We use specialist GRP primers that key the surface before the topcoat. The result is hard-wearing and resistant to UV fading.

uPVC garage doors can be painted using a plastic-bonding primer system. Where the door is structurally sound, painting is a cost-effective update rather than full replacement.

We advise honestly before starting. If a door isn’t a good candidate for painting, we’ll say so.
